Job Summary

Diligent Solutions is seeking a Sonographer. This role is an integral part of the healthcare team, specializing in diagnostic imaging to monitor prenatal development and gynecological conditions. This role involves performing and analyzing ultrasound examinations using advanced equipment to assist in diagnosing and managing patient care. The Sonographer also ensures patient comfort and safety while maintaining detailed medical records and adhering to regulatory standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school (required).
• Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification (required).
• State licensure, if applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience conducting sonograms in an OB/GYN setting (preferred).
• ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification or equivalent (preferred).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Essential Functions:

• Perform accurate and high-quality OB/GYN ultrasound procedures, including imaging of internal organs, tissues, and blood flow.
• Analyze and evaluate sonographic images for quality, clarity, and diagnostic usefulness.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms and ultrasound equipment in compliance with safety, infection control, and sterilization protocols.
• Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures, address questions, and alleviate concerns.
• Maintain accurate patient records, including data and images, in compliance with privacy regulations.
• Safeguard patient information by adhering to HIPAA standards and ensuring proper coding of diagnostic and procedural data.
• Regularly inspect and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure functionality and proper sterilization.

 

Primary Duties:

• Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Prepare and restock exam rooms with necessary supplies and clean rooms after each patient visit.
• Ensure patient comfort during scans, particularly in sensitive or emotional situations.
• Evaluate sonographic images to confirm diagnostic usability and ensure compliance with clinical standards.
• Communicate findings to physicians through detailed and timely reporting.
• Sterilize equipment and maintain a clean work environment to support patient safety.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to optimize workflows and patient care.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and practice operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, particularly in obstetrics and gynecology.
• Expertise in sonographic techniques, including 2D, 3D, and Doppler imaging, and their appropriate applications.
• Proficiency in optimizing image quality based on patient condition and anatomy.
• Knowledge of patient privacy laws, safety protocols, and infection control measures.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction and collaboration with physicians.
• Sensitivity and empathy to provide emotional support to patients during procedures.
• Keen attention to detail to identify subtle abnormalities in images and ensure accuracy.
• Ability to adapt to dynamic clinical environments and troubleshoot imaging challenges.

 

Work Environment:

• Occasional travel or overtime may be required.
• Professional healthcare setting with exposure to standard office and medical equipment.
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and toxic substances.

 

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
• Extended periods of standing and walking.
• Manual dexterity for operating ultrasound equipment and positioning patients.
